Rangers get commitment from Contreras

The UW-Parkside men's soccer program has received a commitment from Carlos Contreras (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake), who was a 2008 NSCAA National High School All-American. The 5-9, 145-pound Contreras will play either forward or midfield for the Rangers.

“Carlos is very creative, attacking player,” said UW-Parkside head coach Rick Kilps. “He has been recognized for his skill by his peers and opposing coaches.”

Contreras is a two-time all-state player in Minnesota and was selected as the MVP of the Senior Classic all-star game. He has garnered a pair of all-metro, all-region and all-conference awards.

“His high level of technical expertise is apparent in being solid at holding the ball, getting out of tight spaces and going forward in an attacking mode,” explained Kilps. “He's an exciting player to watch.”

The future Ranger plays club soccer with the St. Croix Red Devils, who were the 2008 state champions and the runner-up in 2009. Contreras also is a state Olympic Development team member.

Contreras will join a Ranger program which has posted 30 consecutive winning seasons. The team was 13-5-2 last season and finished in fourth place in the 15-school Great Lakes Valley Conference with a record of 8-4-2.
