A rain delay began at 10:38 a.m. with score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning in Game 1 of a scheduled softball doubleheader between Quincy and UW-Parkside at Parkside Saturday. The game was called at 12:17 p.m...it was not known at the time, but that turned out to be the end of the Rangers' 2009 season.
The games were moved up 2 hours in an attempt to avoid afternoon rains.
The Saturday scenario proved extremely costly for the Rangers who needed to add to the win column in order to be one of the eight teams to qualify for the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament. Missouri S&T swept Rockhurst on Sunday, leap-frogging the Rangers for the final spot.
UW-Parkside ended with a rare losing season at 17-19 overall and 9-11 in league play.
