Christie paces collegiate runners to the line

UW-Parkside's Hope Christie was the first collegiate runner to the finish line at the UW-Parkside Invitational Saturday morning. Christie was clocked in 18:17 for the Kim Merritt 5K Run on the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.

Anna Weber, an unattached runner, was the top finisher overall. She ran the route in 18:11.

Bellarmine won the team championship with a score of 41, a safe distance ahead of second place Northern Michigan, 62. UW-Parkside finished fourth with 94 behind third place Michigan Tech, 72, and ahead of fifth place Creighton, 146.

Other Ranger overall places and times for those who scored were Taylor Miller, 11th, 19:18; Whitney Olson, 26th, 19:40; Jessica Watychowicz, 28th, 19:44; and Chelsea Tribble, 40th, 19:59.

An even 100 runners finished the race. Ten teams participated.

The Rangers are the host to the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference meet, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 6.
