Mario Samuel claiming Pitcher of the Week accolades.
The southpaw lands his first GLVC Pitcher of the Week Award after tossing a complete game one-hitter on Monday against the University of Indianapolis, helping the Rangers escape Greyhound Park with a doubleheader split. Samuel tossed 111 pitches in game one against UIndy, striking out three and yielding just one hit in Parkside's 2-0 victory. The lone hit against Samuel was surrendered in the top of the fourth inning and was quickly neutralized by an inning ending double play.
The exercise science major has made five appearances on the mound for UW-Parkside, making four starts and tossing a team-leading three complete games. Samuel owns a 3-2 record on the bump with 20 strikeouts and an earned run average of 6.00 in 30 innings of action.
UW-Parkside (6-13, 4-8 GLVC) is in action today against Lewis University in a GLVC Twinbill in Romeoville, Ill.
