SOMERS, Wis. (Nov. 7, 2014)-- The fourth-ranked and top-seeded University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team scored on a pair of set plays, downing fourth-seeded Truman State University 2-0 on Friday afternoon in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Semifinal at Wood Road Field.

With the win, the Rangers (16-0-3) advance to the GLVC Championship Game for the seventh time in program history and the second time in as many years. UW-Parkside will face seventh-seeded Missouri University S&T on Sunday at noon at Wood Road Field after the Miners extended their Cinderella run advancing 4-3 on penalty kicks after played to a scoreless double overtime draw against sixth-seeded Quincy University in the first semifinal of the day.

Lauren Bialas provided a spark off the bench for the second consecutive contest, substituting in the 25th minute and immediately scoring on a free kick. Niekie Pellens served the free kick into the box with Karley Mecko heading the ball to Bialas as the sophomore collected her second goal of the 2014 slate. The host Rangers maintained the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break, outshooting the Bulldogs (13-5-2) by a 3-2 margin.

Kelsey Armour padded the Ranger lead in the 59th minute, heading the ball past the Truman goalkeeper off a corner kick for her fourth score of the season. Pellens served in the ball, notching her second assist of the game and her team-leading 13th helper of the year.

UW-Parkside finished with a 9-6 edge on shots, including a 3-2 edge in shots on frame.

Goalkeeper Mallory Geurts and the Ranger defensive unit collaborated for the team's 15th shutout of the season, tying a school single-season record for clean sheets with the 2008 and 2004 teams. Geurts made two saves in 90 minutes of work, helping the Green and White extend its shutout streak to 520 minutes, a streak spanning all the way back to Oct. 19. Truman's Katie Mattingly suffered the loss in net, making three saves and allowing two goals.
