INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 16, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team was one of nine programs honored by the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Thursday, winning the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Sportsmanship Award for displaying "good sportsmanship" during the 2012-2013 spring season.
The SAAC Sportsmanship Award is determined by voted of the GLVC member institutions' campus SAACs. The committees select their top three choices in each sport and base their decision on their view of sportsmanship. Each team that received a first-place vote received three points, second place received two points, and the third place received one point. The GLVC sponsors the award in each of the league's eighteen championship sports.
A cold and wet spring wreaked havoc on the Rangers schedule, forcing the squad to play their opening 30 games on the road. UW-Parkside finished the 2013 campaign with a 4-30 record and a 4-28 mark in GLVC play under the direction of first year coach
Daniel Esposito.
