Escareno, Kurscheidt Both Finish Second at GLVC Championships

Jesus Escareno and Cody Kurscheidt both earned GLVC Runner-Up honors
Rensselaer, Ind. - The UW-Parkside men's track & field team is in fifth place after a successful first day at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships. The Rangers accumulated 26 points on Friday. Indianapolis leads the meet with 44 points.
 
Parkside saw great success in the distance events earning a pair of top finishes in both the 10,000 meter run and the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
 
Cody Kurscheidt was the conference runner-up in the 10,000. He earned his second place with a time of 31:41.19. Jordan Theiler made it two Rangers in the top five, as he recorded a fourth-place time of 31:52.67.
 
Jesus Escareno also was the GLVC runner-up in the steeplechase. Escareno was a little over five seconds from the title as he finished in 9:08.96. Evan Lewandowski took sixth place in a tight pack with a time of 9:24.99.
 
Cedric Ray scored a couple of points for the Rangers in the triple jump. His jump of 12.75 meters was good for seventh place.
 
Michael Karwowski continued his strong season by earning the fourth seed in the 100 meter dash finals set for Saturday. He crossed the line in 10.89. Ray just missed out on qualifying as he finished ninth in 11.04; one-tenth of a second out of the eighth position.
 
Karwowski assured himself a busy Saturday as he also moved on to the 200 meter finals by finishing sixth in the prelims (21.73). Justin Armstrong will join him as he had the eighth-best time of the day.
 
The Rangers will conclude action on Saturday with the remaining events scheduled at Saint Joseph's College. Field events will start at noon with the running events slated for 3:00 p.m.
