Ben Orvold set a new school record in the 10,000 meter outdoor run on Thursday evening at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College. The senior put himself in prime position to earn a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships later this month with his effort on Thursday.
Orvold crossed the line in 29:47.6 to best the former mark of 30:01.1 set by Tim Renzelman in 1985. The time is the 17th-best in the nation this year with the championships slated for Pueblo, Colorado at the end of the month.
Ron Hedman also competed in the 5,000 meter run finishing 39th. He finished in 15:20.30.
The rest of the meet concludes today in Naperville.
