Walk-Off Win Helps Rangers Split With Drury

Chris Glynn's single in the bottom of the tenth gave the Rangers a victory against Drury
Somers, Wis. – The UW-Parkside baseball team rallied with two runs in the tenth inning to earn a key Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Drury University on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers earned a 5-4 win in the opener on Chris Glynn's walk-off hit. The Panthers came back to take game two, 4-1.

UW-Parkside is now 4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and 10-8 overall. Drury is also 4-2 in the league with an 11-7 overall mark.

Below are recaps of each game on Saturday.

Game One (Box Score)
The Panthers threatened through much of the contest against Ryan Windt but the damage was limited. They took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with a Brett Neill sacrifice fly.

John Brennan answered in a big way with a booming home run to start the bottom half of the inning. Taylor Nehls was able to give the Rangers the lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to score Mike Anderson who had reached via hit-by-pitch.

Drury jumped back out in front with two runs in the fifth on a two-out double by Caleb Cole. From there Windt was able to settle in and allow his team the time to come back.

Brennan was in the middle of the action again as he walked to start the seventh. Eric Abel then reached on an error to move him up. Two outs later, Corey Stonelake came through with a big hit, scoring Brennan to knot the score.

Both teams came up empty the next two frames, sending the game to extra innings. Windt stayed strong but the Panthers were able to take the lead back in the tenth.

A walk and an error helped contribute to the unearned run. John Neill's two-out hit cashed it in and the Rangers were up against the wall heading to the bottom of the tenth.

But in their home debut the Rangers weren't going to be denied. Anderson and Cody Gilles earned walks against Drury closer Laurent Zenoni to start the rally. Stonelake executed a textbook sacrifice to advance both runners and set the stage for the comeback.

Nehls guaranteed at least another inning as he tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left. But Chris Glynn wasn't about to make the Rangers wait, lining a base hit to right field to bring home Gilles and set off the celebration.

Windt improved to 3-2 on the year with the 10-inning complete game win. He struck out six while allowing three earned runs.

Brennan and Kirk Haviland led the offense with two hits apiece. Nehls drove in two while Anderson and Brennan scored twice.

Game Two (Box Score)
The Rangers drew first blood in game two scoring a run in the opening inning. Gilles had a sac fly to score Abel for a 1-0 lead.

Drury evened things up with a run of their own in the third. Meanwhile Panther starter Lucas Peterson was in control on the mound, holding the Rangers without a hit through five innings.

Drury then broke through with a three spot in the sixth, two of which were unearned against Mike Nicks, for a 4-1 lead.

The Rangers got their first hits in the sixth inning before trying to rally in the seventh. Stonelake singled to start the inning and Glynn walked two batters later to bring the tying run to the plate.

But Zenoni came on to get a pair of fly balls to end the game and secure the split.

Nicks absorbed the loss yielding just one earned run in the complete game. He gave up five hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out two.

Parkside will continue the weekend home stand with another doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers will take on Missouri S&T at noon at Oberbruner Field.
