Liberty, Mo. - The UW-Parkside baseball team broke its split streak in a big way earning a Great Lakes Valley Conference sweep of William Jewell on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers earned wins of 18-8 and 5-2 to improve to 8-6 on the season and 2-0 in the league.
Parkside had split a pair of games in each of its first six days on the field. Full box scores are not yet available.
In game one the Rangers offense broke out for a season-high 18 runs in support of
Ryan Windt.
Cody Gilles had a huge game going 3-for-4 with two home runs, six runs batted in, and four runs scored.
Kirk Haviland finished with two hits including a home run and two RBI.
John Brennan set the table going 2-for-2 with two walks, a hit by pitch, and scored three runs.
Windt was the winner, moving to 2-2 on the year. He went six innings allowing six hits while striking out three.
In game two, Brennan was big again going 2-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases.
Chris Glynn went 1-for-3 with a two-run double. He also walked and was hit by a pitch.
Taylor Nehls also had a double and two-RBI.
Mike Nicks improved to 3-1 with the complete game. He yielded just five hits and a walk.
The Rangers will complete their conference-opening trip to Missouri with a doubleheader on Sunday against Rockhurst University. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Kansas City.
