INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced today that the UW-Parkside baseball team has been picked by the league's coaches to place seventh in the Eastern Division. Last year's squad made a five game improvement on 2010 and won 12 conference games, the most for the program since 2007.
Quincy University and the University of Southern Indiana have been tabbed as favorites to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Championship. The league's 16 head coaches selected USI to retain its GLVC East Division title after finishing the 2011 campaign with a 26-8 conference record. Quincy has been picked to win the West Division after winning the GLVC Baseball Tournament Championship last year following a runner-up finish in the West at 21-9.
The 2012 GLVC baseball season will feature 16 teams for the first time as William Jewell enters its first year in the league, although the Cardinals will not be eligible for the conference tournament.
The top three teams from the East Division, the top two teams from the West Division and three wild card teams will earn a berth to the 2012 GLVC Baseball Tournament on May 10-13, which will be held primarily at Bosse Field in Evansville, Ind. Select opening-round contests will take place at the Southern Indiana Baseball Field.
