Complete NSCAA All-America Team
SOMERS, Wis. (Dec. 4, 2012)-- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its Continental Tire NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America Team on Tuesday with University of Wisconsin-Parkside defender
Lauki'i Cheng earning a spot on the Third Team for the second time in her career.
Cheng earns the program's sixth NSCAA All-America certificate and becomes the first Ranger to claim the award twice, also securing third team accolades as a freshman in 2008.
Shannon Becker (2010), Meredith Novak (2009) and Lisa Gorski (2005) earned NSCAA Third Team All-America honors while Stefanie Strauss-Thompkins was a First Team selection in 2004.
The senior helped anchor a defense that yielded just eight goals in 14 conference games, including eight shutouts while not allowing a goal in the final 662 minutes of Great Lakes Valley Conference play. Cheng, who played and started all 20 games for the Rangers this season, was also a threat on offense, netting one goal and four assists while helping the Rangers advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second time in three years.
Cheng, a four-time All-GLVC and Daktronics All-Midwest Region selection, closed out her tenure with a career record of 61-13-7 (2008, 2010-2012), making four trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament while winning the GLVC Championship in 2008 and 2010. Cheng was additionally a Daktronics Honorable Mention All-American in 2008.
The Rangers closed out the 2012 season with a 14-5-1 record and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16, suffering a 2-0 setback to No. 3 Grand Valley State University on Nov. 16 in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Finals.
