Rangers Honor Koch, Rynish with Big Win Over Stevens Point

The UW-Parkside wrestling team honored their former coach and only senior by rolling to a 28-6 win over UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night in the DeSimone Gymnasium. The Rangers never trailed in the match win eight of the ten bouts to claim the dual victory. Parkside now holds a 13-10-1 lead in the all-time series with UWSP.

The program honored it's lone senior Luke Rynish prior to the match. The 174-pounder from Hortonville, Wis., is just ten wins shy of tying the school's all-time wins mark.

The night however belong to recently retired coach, Jim Koch. Koch was recognized at intermission for his 41 year Hall of Fame career in which he led 128 All-Americans and 14 individual National Champions.

Jacob Papke and Collin Crume got the Rangers off to a 6-0 lead with a pair of decisions to start the night. Papke trailed 1-0 heading to the third period but scored three quick points to take control before winning 4-1.

Crume had an excited match with Joe Mileski scoring two near falls in the second period to take the lead 8-6. An early takedown in the third made it 10-6 and he went on to the 11-8 win.

After a loss at 141, Mike Migawa got the Rangers back on track at 149. He recorded an 8-3 over Ben Thome in his first match of the season.

The Pointers earned a 10-4 decision at 157 pounds but that was the final victory for Stevens Point on the night.

Monterail Johnson earned a hard-fought 5-1 victory at 165 to make it 12-6 on the night. Rynish did not have the opportunity to wrestle on his Senior Night as he earned six points for a forfeit win at 174.

From there it was all Rangers to the finish line. Matthew Gille got the only major decision on the night, a 10-1 win over Andy Borchardt.

Davien Willis and James Malechek finished things up with impressive decision victories. Willis, a 6-2 victor over Dustin Wozniak, and Malechek a dominant 9-2 win over Matt Cuadra.

The Rangers improved to 4-5 in duals on the year with the win.
