Verona, Wis.- The UW-Parkside Baseball team hammered out 16 hits on Wednesday afternoon in a convincing 16-3 victory over Edgewood College. All nine started collected at least one base-hit as the Rangers improved to 9-17 on the season with the non-conference win.

“From an offensive standpoint we carried on with what we started last weekend,” said Head Coach Joel Weaver. “Pitching-wise we threw strikes and did our job. I'm very happy with those two areas today.”

The Rangers broke through in the second inning, scoring seven runs to take control of the game. Eight of the first nine hitters in the inning reached base to start the hit parade. Robert Bellish got things going with an-RBI double to score Dave Lojeski who had also doubled. John Perszyk knocked in a run with a groundout and Mike Anderson and Taylor Schwarz added run-scoring singles to make it 4-0. Corey Stonelake finished the inning with a two-run hit to run the lead to six.

They added to the lead in the third when Kris Zarek doubled to the gap to score Perszyk. Schwarz added his second RBI of the day two batters later.

Edgewood got two runs in the third (one unearned) and then another in the fourth to make it 9-3. From that point on it was all Parkside.

The Rangers would score six more runs in the sixth inning on five hits. The first six batters reached via hit or walk and all of them came around to score. Bellish had his second RBI-double, Persyzk had an RBI-single, Kris Zarek contributed a two-run double, and Anderson capped the inning with a two-run single.

Parkside finished the scoring in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Alex Zarek and Ben Korman.
The Rangers have now scored 60 runs over their last five games.

Anderson led the way at the plate going 4-for-5 with three runs batted in. Kris Zarek was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Bellish and Schwarz each had two hits and two RBI.

“Since we put Mike the lead-off spot he has not only done a good job setting the table, but also cleaning up things from the bottom of the order,” said Weaver. “We're very happy with what he's been able to give us.”

Chris Wolcott got his first win of the year allowing two earned runs in five innings of work. Dustin Kollman finished things up holding the Eagles scoreless over his two innings.

The Rangers will return home this weekend for a four-game set with Kentucky Wesleyan. It's a key GLVC series as they make their push for one of the final GLVC Tournament slots.

“We continued to hit the ball well and reassures us we're going to be able to keep producing runs,” said Weaver. “Hopefully that takes some of the pressure off the pitching staff because we need them to have a good weekend (against Kentucky Wesleyan). This gives us some good momentum going into the next series.”
