With 14:50 to go in the UW-Parkside women's basketball game with Maryville Saturday afternoon, Brittany Hogen became the 14th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club. The senior worked her way free underneath to score and give her team a 40-31 lead.
The Rangers won the game in the DeSimone Gymnasium, 70-60.
The win lofts the Ranger record to 15-4 overall and 9-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The team is a perfect 12-0 at home this season with two still slated for the home court.
The Saints threw a scare into the Rangers early. The visitors led by a 23-15 score, 12 minutes into the contest. A baseline jumper by Brittany Beyer gave UW-Parkside a 27-25 lead with 2 minutes to go in the first half. The Rangers led, 29-28, at halftime.
The Rangers used a 9-0 run to start the second half. The club never looked back, as Maryville could get no closer than six points.
Amy Selk, who leads the GLVC in rebounding, scored 10 points and pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds. Beyer led the Rangers in scoring with 18 points.
Jadee Rooney tallied 13 points before fouling out late in the game. Hogen ended with 12 for 1,001 career points.
The Rangers will hit the road next week. The team will be at Indianapolis Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and at Southern Indiana Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Both times are CST.
