Box Score

The final score was much closer than the way the game was played would indicate in UW-Parkside's 69-62 win over visiting Kentucky Wesleyan in a Great Lakes Valley Conference women's basketball game. The game was contested in the DeSimone Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.

The Rangers led by as many as 22 points in the first half and held onto a double-digit lead throughout much of the second half. A pressing Panther defense forced the Rangers into late turnovers and made several free throws to close the final margin to seven, which was as close as it was since the early stages of the game.

Kentucky Wesleyan led early in the clash at 6-4. From there, the Rangers went on a 12-3 run and later an 8-0 run, playing from the front for the remainder of the game. The halftime lead stood at 40-21 in favor of UW-Parkside.

Second chance points were key in the first half. The Rangers had 17 second chance points, while the Panthers were held off the score sheet in that department. The second half was the complete opposite, as UWP gained only two second chance points, while Kentucky Wesleyan came up with 17.

UW-Parkside out-rebounded the Panthers, 28-10 in the first half and 43-28 for the game. Amy Selk was the Rangers' high rebounder with 10.

Jadee Rooney and Brittany Beyer led the Rangers by scoring 16 points apiece. The pair were a combined 10-10 at the free throw line. The Rangers, as a team, converted on 24 of their 27 free throws. Kentucky Wesleyan was 15-21.

The win boosts the Ranger record to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the GLVC. Kentucky Wesleyan is now 6-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Next up for the Rangers is a battle with Bellarmine in the DeSimone Gymnasium, Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 5:30 p.m.
