All-District 5 College Division Teams

UW-Parkside softball player Nicki Ekstrom has earned academic honors as nominated and voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Ekstrom is a member of one of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District softball teams.

Ekstrom, who recently completed her junior season, has a 3.84 cumulative grade point average. Her field of study is Applied Health Sciences.

The Deer Park, Illinois, resident was a second team selection in the College Division (NCAA II, III and NAIA) for District 5. She is one of four outfielders on the second team along with Mollie Bjelland of Winona State; Rachel MacBeth of DePauw; Megan Paradzinski of St. Xavier; and Emily Wendorff of Gustavus Adolphus. 

Ekstrom is one of only four Great Lakes Valley Conference softball players to recieve such an honor. Others from around the league are Sara Loete, Southern Indiana, first team; Katie Healy, Lewis, second team; and Amanda Brendel, Southern Indiana, third team.

On the field this season, Ekstrom started all 51 games in the outfield for the Rangers. She logged a .282 batting average with four triples, four doubles and a home run. She had a lofty .985 fielding percentage which encompassed 57 putouts and 10 assists with only one error.

The Rangers finished the 2010 season with a 30-21 record which included a 16-12 mark in the GLVC.
