Alex Mena earned two career best times at Saturday's UW-Whitewater Drake ALTERNATIVE Meet when he won the 800m Run and placed second in the 1500m Run.
Mena earned his first personal best in the 1500m where he trailed the field through the first 800m and moved up over the second half of the race to finish with a time of 4:02.83. UW-Whitewater's Aron Kehoe won the event with a time of 3:58.85. Mena's pervious best was a 4:07 that he ran earlier this year.
In the 800m Run, about 90 minutes after the 1500m, he once again trailed the field through the 400m with a split of 59.7. He made his final drive from 150m out and covered the second 400m in 58.1. His previous outdoor best came last year at the GLVC Meet where he ran a 1:58.95.
Teammate Bryan McLoone placed fourth in the event with a time of 2:00.97 with Laquan Fenderson placing eighth with a time of 2:03.40 in winning the second section of the event.
Dustin Baldwin also turned in a career best in the 3000m Steeplechase when he ran 9:53.59 to earn a second place finish. He improved by over 8 seconds on his previous best two weeks ago.
Rehan Mahmood rounded out the scoring for the UWP Men with an eighth place in the 5000m Run. His time was 15:34.81.
The UWP Men placed seventh in the meet out of 12 schools with a total of 34 points. Host UW-Whitewater edged the University of Wisconsin and UW-Oshkosh by a count of 164 to 157 to 102. The Badgers only brought their Weight events and Jumpers to the meet.
