Game 1 Game 2 Game 3 Game 4
Kentucky Wesleyan won both ends of a doubleheader at a sunny, windy Oberbruner Field Saturday afternoon. The Panthers won the opener, 10-6, then hung on to win the nightcap in an extra inning, 3-2.
On Sunday, the Rangers' 11-game skid came to an end with a convincing 12-3 win over the Panthers in Game One. Game Two did not go as well, as KWC won the series with a 7-4 triumph.
In Saturday's opener, the Panthers scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to open a 5-0 lead. The visitors extended their lead to 8-2 in the sixth inning. Parkside scored three in the eighth and one in the ninth.
The Panthers out-hit the Rangers, 15-11.
Alex Zarek was the starting and losing pitcher. He gave up five earned runs in five innings.
Jon Kleinmeyer finished up, giving up two earned runs in four innings.
In Game Two on Saturday, the Rangers left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth as the Panthers secured their second win. KWC scored its run in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
Jack Olson was the hard-luck losing pitcher. He worked all eight innings.
Taylor Nehls and John Hasser had two hits apiece in both games.
In Sunday's Ranger winner, Parkside put on a 13-hit attack in the seven-inning game. Five Rangers had two hits and all but one had a knock in the balanced offensive effort. UWP was the beneficiary of five consecutive KWC errors to five straight batters in the fourth inning, which plated three runs and opened up a 8-3 advantage.
Chris Wolcott went the distance on the hill for Parkside. He earned his initial win of the season by striking out seven and walking one.
In the series finale,
Josh Hudnut was the starting and losing pitcher. Four of the seven runs surrendered were earned.
Dave Watson stayed hot with a 3-5 effort at the plate. The top three in the Ranger order accounted for seven of the 11 hits. KWC also had 11 hits. Four UWP errors were key.
Next weekend, the Rangers will travel to Indianapolis for a four-game series. Prior, UWP will host a non-conference doubleheader with NCAA Division III Wisconsin Lutheran Wednesday, April 21, starting at 1:00 p.m.
