The UW-Parkside baseball team won its home opener by beating Upper Iowa, 5-1, back on March 25 at Oberbruner Field. The Peacocks were out for revenge in a non-conference double dip in Fayette, Iowa, Tuesday afternoon.
The Peacocks earned their revenge in Game One with a 2-0 victory and followed it up with a 7-1 win in Game Two.
in the opener, Upper Iowa scored single runs in the second and third innings, scoring in the latter inning on a bases-loaded walk.
Joel Bergmann was chased from the mound in the third inning.
Jon Kleinmeyer finished up and did not give up an earned run the rest of the way. Both Bergmann and Kleinmeyer each gave up only three hits.
UW-Parkside was four-hit by Tyler Kalb. Ranger John Hasser had the only extra base hit for either side with a double. Parkside stranded two runners in its last at bat in the top of the seventh. The game was briskly played in just over 90 minutes.
In the nightcap,
Ben Korman accounted for the Ranger run with a solo shot in the top of the seventh inning.
Michael Bjerke was the starting and losing pitcher.
Upper Iowa scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings and tacked on a three-spot in the fourth.
The Peacocks out-hit the Rangers, 11-5.
The Rangers will return to Great Lakes Valley Conference action when it hosts Kentucky Wesleyan in a four-game set over the weekend. A doubleheader will be played both Saturday and Sunday starting at noon. UWP will have an opportunity to catch the Panthers in the league standings. See:
