The annual UW-Parkside Invitational was held in Columbus, Indiana, over the weekend. The two-day golf event was delayed Saturday, due to frost, and then was played through constant showers on Sunday.
The Rangers fell just short of a fourth place tie. Northwood and Grand Valley State each logged a 602 score, with UWP a scant stroke behind at 603. Wayne State (Mich.) won the event with a 582, a good distance ahead of second place Northern Kentucky, 590.
The event was contested at Otter Creek Golf Course. The course is 6,897 yards long and is a par 72.
Individually, Wayne State's Joe Juszczyk was the medalist. He carded scores of 66 and 71 for a 137 total, which is seven under par for 36 holes. Next best was Danny Lewis of Northern Kentucky, 70-72=142.
Parkside's low man was
Andy Hansen, who finished in a tie for 11th place. He fired a 75 and 74 for a 149 total.
"We got off to our typical slow start and came back fairly strong in the final round," said UW-Parkside coach
Mark Olsen. "Only two teams scored lower than us on day two."
Other Ranger scores were
Mike Keller, 77-73=150;
Andrew Troyanek, 76-74=150;
Bob Tierney, 77-77=154; and
Keith Buntrock, 83-78=161.
