Game 1     Game 2

The UW-Parkside baseball team upped its home record to 3-0 after picking up a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference victories over visiting Lewis Saturday afternoon. The Rangers beat the Flyers, 6-2 in the opener, and then squeaked out a 1-0 decision in the nightcap.

The Rangers broke the first game open with a clutch five-run seventh inning in the nine-inning affair. All five Ranger runs were plated after two were out.

Dave Watson drew a two-out walk to load the bases, setting the stage for Dave Lojeski, who singled to center, chasing home two runs and turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 UWP lead. Jon Hasser followed suit with a single to center, scoring a run. Taylor Nehls kept it going with an infield hit which scored a run. The team added an unearned run to finish the frame.

Lewis opened the scoring on a home run over the right field wall off the bat of Tyler Newsome to lead off the second inning. The Flyers added a run in the ninth.

Alex Zarek was the winning pitcher. He went the distance, striking out four and walking two.

The only run scored in the second game was unearned. Flyer Joe Scumaci pitched a two-hitter, yet absorbed the loss. Jack Olson tossed a three-hitter in the seven-inning game and was credited with the win.

Parkside plated its run in the fourth inning. Hasser singled to left field, scoring Lojeski, who reached on a throwing error.

The twin wins give UWP an 8-15 overall record, which is two more wins than all of last season. The Rangers are 3-7 in GLVC play. Lewis dropped to 13-14 overall and 4-6 in conference.

The two teams will have at it again at Oberbruner Field Sunday, starting at noon. The first game will be a seven inning contest, followed by a nine inning game.
