As the clock slipped past midnight and February matriculated into March, UW-Parkside head baseball coach Joel Weaver, who donned the Ranger uniform as a player a decade ago, picked up his initial win as a head coach. Weaver was previously an assistant at UW-Parkside, Wayne State and Southern Indiana.

The Rangers beat Jamestown College, 5-3, in the Metrodome in Minneapolis in a scheduled doubleheader which started just before 10:00 p.m. Sunday night. The second game made it into the fourth inning, but was called in the wee hours Monday due to curfew.

Parkside erased an early 1-0 deficit by scoring a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings. Tyler Gieseking and Dave Watson started off the third with a pair of singles. Dave Lojeski drove in Gieseking with two-bagger and John Hasser picked up an RBI on a ground out, chasing Watson.

In the fourth, Gieseking's sacrifice fly plated a run and Watson brought home another with a single.

The Rangers tacked on a run in the sixth when Watson hit a sac fly.

Jack Olson was the winning pitcher. It was his first career win after 16 losses. Olson gave up only four hits, three of which came in the first inning.
