Rangers oust Quincy, go for fourth Great Lakes Valley Conference championship

Box Score

The lone goal of the game came just 3 minutes and 10 seconds into the contest. That tally came off the foot of Stephanie Barsuli with an assist from Shannon Becker. The Ranger backline and goalkeeper Cassie Glodowski did the rest as the UW-Parkside women's soccer team blanked Quincy, 1-0, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference semi-final contest in Highland Heights, Kentucky, Friday afternoon.

Barsuli's goal came on a cross from Becker. Her shot from inside the box was fired low from about six yards away, beating Hawk goalkeeper Jodi Chapie. It was the third goal of the season for Barsuli.

Just 9 minutes later, the Rangers had a golden opportunity to grab a 2-0 lead when a penalty kick was awarded. This time Chapie won the battle, making a save on Lauki'i Cheng.

Quincy fired 11 total shots, with Glodowski needing to turn away four of them. The Rangers had only three shots, all of which were on goal.

The Hawks had a huge advantage in corner kicks, taking eight of the nine in the match.

The Rangers, who won the GLVC championship in 2003, 2004 and 2008, will go for number four on Sunday. The team will play the winner of Friday evening's Bellarmine vs. Northern Kentucky match. Sunday's match will start at 11:00 CST (note the end of daylight savings time) with live stats available.

UW-Parkside will bring an overall record of 15-2-1 to the title tilt. Quincy is looking for its fourth consecutive NCAA tournament bid and has an overall mark of 13-4-3.
