Rangers advance

Box Score

The UW-Parkside women's soccer team moved on to the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Final Four with a decisive 4-0 over visiting Rockhurst in a league semi-final game at Wood Road Field. The Rangers will now play Quincy at Northern Kentucky in semi-final action Friday, Nov. 5, at noon EDT.

The league's leading scorer, Shannon Becker, scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The GLVC's Offensive Player of the Year was held off the score sheet until the 22:06 mark when she beat a defender and had Rockhurst goalkeeper Lucy Sullivan one-on-one. Becker won the battle on a goal which was set up by Megan Owens and Kristen Benson.

The score stood at 1-0 at halftime; however, the Rangers scored quickly in the scored half. It took 4 minutes for Stephanie Barsuli to move the twine with help from Natalie Brown and Benson. Brown then did the rest, scoring the final two goals. Becker and Megan Cyr assisted on the first of Brown's goals and Brynn Darga and Becker set up the second.

For Brown, it was her first two goals of the season. Becker, in her junior season, became UW-Parkside's all-time leading scorer, passing up former teammate Meredith Novak, with her point output. Becker now has 98 career total points including 42 this season.

“I thought we played well, possession-wise in the first half,” said UW-Parkside head coach Troy Fabiano. “In the second half, we were more composed in front of the goal.”

Parkside's Cassie Glodowski started in goal and played all but the final six minutes of the game. She had one save and her back-up, Gloria Casteneda, made a pair of saves. Parkside put 10 shots on goal in the contest.

The Hawks played minus a player in the final 17 minutes due to Caroline Duke picking up her second yellow card of the game.
