Rangers win by 25 at UIS

Box Score

The bar has been set high. How high? Well, the UW-Parkside women's basketball team won by 25 points on the road and neither head coach Jenny Kenesie nor assistant coach Brad Fischer were very happy after the game.

The Rangers won, 80-55, at Illinois-Springfield, lifting their overall record to 12-2.

"This team talks about winning championships, but if they are going to do that they need to come out strong every night regardless of who the opponent is," said Fischer on the game's broadcast. "I'm disappointed. "We didn't play well at all and we were not mentally tough," said Kenesie on the air.

Illinois-Springfield, a newcomer to the Great Lakes Valley Conference, stayed with the Rangers for the first 15 minutes. Parkside took a 42-31 lead at halftime and eventually blew the game open.

The Prairie Stars are still searching for their first ever GLVC win after five tries and are 2-10 overall.

Jadee Rooney had a hot hand for the Rangers. She was 7-10 from the floor including a 3-4 effort from behind the three-point arc. She led UWP with 17 points.

UIS, which suited only nine players, two of which fouled out, were paced by Paulina Pogorzelski, who notched 22 points.

Parkside shot 52 percent for the game and limited the Prairie Stars to 39.

The Ranger coaches look for a more spirited performance at St. Joseph's Saturday, Jan. 9. The game begins at 1:00 p.m. CST and can be heard live by going to 'Game Day' at the top right-hand portion of this page.
