Summary
UW-Parkside's lone home dual meet of the season was a good one. The Rangers defeated UW-Stevens Point, 23-12, in the DeSimone Gymnasium Wednesday night.
Parkside upped its dual meet record to 5-2, while the Pointers dropped to 7-8.
The Rangers, ranked No. 7 in the country in the latest NCAA Division II poll, got a pin from
Cody Zimmerman at 125 pounds in 2:36. That was the lone pin of the evening.
Mike Migawa earned a 15-6 major decision in his bout.
A highlight for the Pointers was at 184 pounds. Ben Engelland improved his season record to 20-0 with a win in the 184-pound weight class over
Luke Haag, who is ranked No. 3 in the nation in the 184-pound weight class in NCAA Division II. Engelland, who is ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division III, won with a 4-0 decision.
"Engelland is a potential national champion," said UW-Parkside head coach Jim Koch.
Two Ranger of the three other Ranger losses were in overtime.
Craig Becker is ranked No. 1 in the country in the 149-pound class and bested Kris Magruder, 5-0.
"Becker was his usual strong self," cited Koch.
"We were a little flat today. The kids had to keep weight with a match at Whitewater tomorrow," explained the coach. "Overall, I thought we wrestled well. Over the years, Stevens Point has been the most competitive with us out of all the state Division III schools."
