Women race together at Minnesota

Freshman Brittany Frederick led a strong team racing effort at Saturday's University of Minnesota Roy Griak Division II Maroon Race held Saturday at the Les Boldstad Golf Course.  Frederick covered the 6000m rolling golf course in a time of 25:07 and finished in 97th place.  She was joined by four other teammates that were within 20 seconds of each other.

Jennie Kindt (99th, 25:09), Whitney Olson (105th, 25:11), Danielle Dietz (125th, 25:26), and Jessica Enderby (128th, 25:27) rounded out the Ranger scorers.

The team finished 18th in the field of 22 scoring teams from Division II, NAIA, and Canadian universities.  Brittany Loza (137th, 25:35) and Julia Bernstein (213th, 26:52) also competed for the UWP team.

The UWP women worked their way thru the field of 287 runners. The 3km placing of the team showed the group coming across the chip pad between 150th and 160th at that point.

Coach Mike De Witt commented:  "In our first two meets the women have shown that they work together very well.  The three veterans (Kindt, Olson, and Enderby) have helped the four freshmen learn how to spread their energies over the 5 and 6km racing distance.  What we lack in the terms of a fast couple of front runners, we make up very well with our third thru seventh runners placing ahead of more than half of the teams in the field, with continued work, patience, and physical strength, we will continue to improve."
