The UW-Parkside men's golf team teed up the 2009 fall season with a meet hosted by Saginaw Valley State over the weekend. The Rangers finished in sixth place out of 11 teams at the Al Watrous Memorial. The course was a par 72, 6,680-yarder.
The team was originally scheduled to open the season at University Ridge in Madison; however, the Ranger opponent cancelled at the 11th hour.
The Rangers carded an 872 for 36 holes, firing a 301 on the first 18, 287 in the second round, and improving to a 284 on the final round.
"We got off to a slow start," admitted UW-Parkside coach Mark Olsen. "The fact that a scheduling issue prevented us from getting in some competition before this event undoubtably hurt us."
Ferris State won the event with a low score of 837, led by low man Eric Lilleboe, who notched a 202.
Parkside's Andy Hansen finished fifth overall with a score of 72-68-69=209.
Other Rangers scores and places were Keith Buntrock, 24th , 75-73-74=222; Bob Tierney, 34th, 82-75-68=225; Jake Knuese, 34th, 78-74-73=225; and Mike Keller, 76-72-78=226.
