The UW-Parkside men's golf team finished in eighth place out of 20 teams at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Kentucky. The two-day event, hosted by Northern Kentucky University, was held April 4 and 5.
The Rangers carded scores of 292 and 292 for a 584 team total, which was eight over par. The yardage for the course is 7,007 with a par of 72.
Ferris State took home the team trophy with an 11 under par 565. Grand Valley State and Indianapolis tied for second, just two strokes off the pace.
Sixteen of the 100 golfers shot under par including UW-Parkside's Bob Tierney, who shot 70 the first day, followed up with a 68 for a 138 total. His score was good for fourth place. Five others shot even par.
"By and large, it was a successful trip," said UW-Parkside coach Mark Olsen.
Other Ranger scores included Andy Hansen, 74-73=147, 34th place; Andrew Troyanek, 73-76=149, 41st place; Keith Buntrock, 75-75=150, 49th place; and #Mike Keller, 78-76-=154, 75th place.
In the latest regional ranking, the Rangers were No. 10. Ten teams qualify for the Super Regional which is the first step toward the national championship. "The eighth place finish was a step toward solidifying our position in the region," added Olsen.

Next up for the Rangers is the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship which begins Thursday, April 9, with 36 holes at Otter Creek in Columbus, Indiana.
