After dropping the first game to Lewis, 8-2, the Ranger softball team came back to shutout the Flyers, 7-0. The Great Lakes Valley Conference twinbill was played at UW-Parkside Wednesday afternoon.
In the opener, Lewis hurler Courtney Lyons struck out 13 in picking up the complete game victory. Kallie Walczak went four-and-two-thirds innings, giving up five earned runs. Lanaya Gutowski kept her earned run average at 0.00 in her third appearance of the season. She worked the final two-and-a-third innings, giving up only one hit.
The Rangers out-hit the Flyers, 8-6. Amy Horn had the hat trick in hits for Parkside.
In Game 2, the Rangers pounced on Lewis for six runs in the third inning. The team sent 11 batters to the plate, coming up with four hits. The Rangers took advantage of three Flyer errors.
It was the first loss of the season for Flyer pitcher Diana Pickrum, who fell to 9-1. Jessica Bryant was the winner, improving to 5-3. She fanned three in the shutout performance.
Again, the Rangers out-hit the Flyers, this time 8-4. Alyssa Wilson, Christine Holthus and Krista Kelly each registered a pair of hits.
Lewis is 27-13 overall and 10-6 in GLVC play. The Rangers are 15-15, 9-7.
The Rangers will play a non-conference doubleheader at St. Xavier Thursday, before heading to Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky for conference action over the weekend.
