Coach Rick Kilps' team annually achieves academic and athletic excellence

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced the team academic awards this week and the UW-Parkside men's soccer squad is a part of it. The announcement was made this week for the 2008-09 acadmic year. The deadline for submissions was in October with the annual December announcement to follow.

The Ranger men's soccer team made the mark by exceeding the 3.0 team grade point average. See the list of heady teams: http://www.nscaa.com/articles/20091106144024511.php

"We have always emphasized the academic side of the student/athlete, said UW-Parkside veteran head coach Rick Kilps, who is also a UWP soccer alum. "The program takes great pride in the classroom success as well as the success gained on the playing field."

This is the rule rather than the exception. The UW-Parkside men's soccer team has garnered this award in 9 of the last 11 years. The two times the Rangers did not make the cut, they missed by mere percentage points.

"Achieving this award is an annual goal of ours," added Kilps.
