The UW-Parkside women's softball program has added four players to its 2010 fall roster and will begin regular season play in the spring of 2011. Signing to play with the Rangers are Kirsten Luevano (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), Colleen Cummings (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township), Hayley Schneider (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) and Kyla Walczak (Henry, Ill./Senachwine).

“I'm excited to welcome these four young ladies into the Ranger softball family,” said UW-Parkside head softball coach Laura 'Flip' Fillipp. “All four have had successful high school and travel ball experiences that will assist them as they prepare to play at the next level.”

Luevano is a pitcher/outfielder. “She is a strong athlete who can pitch, hit and play outfield,” commented Fillipp.

Cummings is an outfielder. “Colleen is a left-handed outfielder with very good bat control and speed,” noted Fillipp.

Schneider is a right-handed pitcher. “Hayley spins the ball well from the mound and can also play second base,” said Fillipp. Schneider is the younger sister of current Ranger outfielder Erin Schneider.

Like Schneider, Walczak has a sister on the Ranger roster. Kyla's sister, Kallie, is pitcher on the squad. Kyla Walczak is a third baseman. “Kyla is a heady player with some power at the plate,” said Fillipp.

Levano, Cummings and Schneider all play for the New Lenox Lightning. Walczak plays club ball for the East Peoria Express. The new Ranger quartet will play in their senior high schools seasons this coming spring.

“I believe that, for all of them, their best softball is ahead of them,” said Fillipp.

UW-Parkside will being the 2010 season at Alabama-Huntsville February 27. The home opener is set for Mary 20, against Rockhurst.
