UW-Parkside's Andy Hansen (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's October Golfer of the Month. Hansen, a junior, posted a pair of strong showings during the month.
Hansen opened the month at the Illinois-Springfield Invitational on Oct. 4-5. He posted a two-round total of 145, one-over-par. His effort was good for a tie for fourth place individually at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Illinois. He fired a 75 in the first round and a daily low-round of 70 on the invitational's second day.
UW-Parkside claimed the team title at the event behind Hansen's strong showing. The Rangers finished with a 293-288=581 to claim an eight-stroke victory after trailing the leaders by six strokes after day one.
At the Wayne State Motor City Invitational held at Grosse Ile Country Club in Grosse Ile, Michigan on Oct. 11-12, Hansen paced the Rangers by tying for third individually. He finished the three-round event with a 75-74-70=219, six-over-par. He finished just four strokes behind Wayne State's Aaron Peterson who took medalist honors in the 10-team event.
The Rangers placed fifth as a team with a 309-300-292=901. They were 21 strokes off the pace at the event.
For the month, Hansen completed five rounds and finished with a 72.8 scoring average.
"Andy has been working hard this fall and this is a good send off for him before the spring season," said UW-Parkside coach Mark Olsen.
Hansen beat out Illinois-Springfield's Ryan McKillips, Lewis' Casey Pyne and Rockhurst's Clarke Fry for the award.
