Box Score

Three players scored 21 or more points as the UW-Parkside women's basketball team started the regular season on a strong note. The Rangers hosted and defeated Florida Southern, 89-74, on opening day for both teams.

Each team was 18-10 last season and on the cusp of the NCAA tournament.

Brittany Beyer fell one point short of her career high in points by pouring in 23 to lead the winners. Backcourt mates Amanda Gibson and Jadee Rooney added 21 points apiece. Brittany Hogen logged a double-double with 14 points to go with 11 rebounds.

The Rangers led throughout the game and had a 47-40 lead at halftime. The lead swelled to as many as 16 points in the second half.

The Mocs cut the lead down to seven at 79-72 with 3:34 left in the game. UWP then scored the next four points to take control.

Chelsea Johnson, who has scored over 1,000 points in her career, and is just a junior, tallied 25 points for Florida Southern. She was held to just four in the first 13 minutes of the game.

Parkside shot 57 percent from the floor in the contest. The team was 20-23 at the free throw line and 7-11 from behind the three-point arc. Rooney was key in the latter stat with a 5-7 performance from behind the arc.
