Rangers women blank Hawks

After a scoreless first half, the UW-Parkside women's soccer team came out and dropped three goals on visiting Rockhurst, while keeping the opposite net closed for business en route to a 3-0 victory.

The win gives the Rangers a 9-3-3 overall record and an 8-3-2 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The victory also clinched a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Confernece tournament. 

The Hawks fell to 7-8-1 overall and 6-6-1 in league play.

"We came out a little flat," admitted UW-Parkside head coach Troy Fabiano. "We woke up in the second half."

Crystal Chalery broke the double goose ege by scoring her fourth goal of the season at 56:37. Kristen Benson and Shannon Becker set up what turned out to be the game-winner.

Kelly Teeters came off the bench to score her first goal of the year at 77:44, assisted by Meredith Novak, for the Rangers' second goal.

Jasmine Espino scored an insurance goal at 79:27, assisted by Becker and Novak. It was Espino's second goal of the season.

"I told the girls we need to get on a roll before the confernece tournament starts," relayed Fabiano.

The Rangers put seven shots on goal in the contest. UWP netminder Cassie Glodowski only needed to make one save.

"In the second half, we shared the ball much better and possessed it well," explained Fabiano. "In the first half, we were looking for that one killer ball."

The Rangers will host Drury Sunday, Oct. 25, at noon. It will be the final Great Lakes Valley Conference game of the season. The team will host Robert Morris-Lake Forest Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 3:30 p.m.
