Robert Wolter has been named interim head women's volleyball at UW-Parkside. Wolter takes over for his wife, Nichole (Roethig) Wolter, who was the head coach for the last five seasons. Nichole Wolter, who will remain as an assistant coach, takes on a new role as the university's Wellness Center Coordinator and Lecturer.
“We are happy that Nichole has an opportunity to further her career inside the classroom,” said UW-Parkside interim athletic director Matt Mountin. “Losing Nichole as a head coach would be a difficult loss for us to take, but Rob's familiarity with the team and the university should allow for a seamless transition for the volleyball program. I am excited to see them both progress in their new positions.”
Rob Wolter becomes the ninth head women's volleyball and the third that bears the same last name (Melissa Wolter, 2000-02, is no relation). Prior to accepting the position, Rob Wolter spent the past five seasons at UW-Parkside as an assistant coach. His primary duties included game preparation, on-court coaching, training and conditioning, scouting, videotaping and analysis and summer camps.
Prior to UW-Parkside, he served as a volunteer assistant for the South Dakota State University volleyball team from 2001-2003. In 2001, the SDSU Jackrabbits finished the season as NCAA Division II national runner-up and were regional runner-up's in their 2002 campaign. Before moving to South Dakota, Wolter volunteered his time with the women's volleyball programs at Winona State University and Mankato State University.
Wolter's coaching background also stems down to the ranks of high school boys and girls teams as well as the club and Junior Olympic levels. Upon his arrival to UW-Parkside in 2003, he co-founded, directed, and served as head coach for various age groups for Southeast Wisconsin Elite Volleyball Club. In 2007, Wolter served as head boy's volleyball coach at South Milwaukee High School. In his first season, two of his players were nominated to the All- Conference team. This past club season, Wolter became a member of the Milwaukee Sting Volleyball Club coaching staff and served as head coach for the 18 Black team.
As a 2000 graduate from Minnesota State University, Mankato, Wolter competed on the Maverick track and field team as a decathlete and a field event specialist in various jumps for two seasons. After track, he moved onto volleyball, playing for the men's club team. Throughout his volleyball career, he was elected Club President, head coach, and earned two Northern Intercollegiate Volleyball All-Conference honors as an outside hitter for the men's club team. During those seasons, the team was consistently ranked in the top 10 for Division II schools at the NIRSA Collegiate Club Championships.
