Ming makes all-region grade

UW-Parkside guard Kayla Ming earned Daktronics all-Great Lakes Region second team honors in women's basketball. The teams were selected by the regions Sports Information Directors.

Ming made the second team of five as a result of a stellar senior season. She averaged 17.9 points per game, helping the Rangers to a 17-11 overall record. She set a school record for most three-pointers made in a season with 77, breaking a record which stood for 14 years.

Ming scored 883 career points, which ranks 17th on the all-time UW-Parkside scoring list.

She was one of only two Rangers to start all 28 games this season. She led the Great Lakes Valley Conference in minutes played with 1,008 (35.9 per game). Ming was a force at the free throw line, making good on 88 percent of her attempts (115-131).

Ming scored 24 points or more in a game seven times this season. She topped out with a career high of 32 at Kentucky Wesleyan on January 12. She had 21 points in the first half of that contest.

She tied a UW-Parkside record for most free throws made in a game with a 14-14 effort versus Lake Superior State on Nov. 17.

Kate Cezat, a junior from Hillsdale, was tabbed the Region Player of the Year. Other first team members include Rachel Folcik, a senior from Ferris State; Amber Shelton, a senior from SIU Edwardsville; Jessica Keller, a junior from Quincy; and Molly Carter, a senior from Drury.

Joining Ming on the second team are Angela Healy, a senior from Northern Kentucky; Karla Mast, a senior from Indianapolis; Tamara McCaskill, a junior from Missouri S&T; and Megan Starnes, a junior from Northwood.
